L’atelier au Régina, Nice, avec des dessins au pinceau des Acrobates et le Nu de dos IV en plâtre, 1953
Archives Henri Matisse, Issy-les-Moulineaux
For a long time, a plaster cast of Nu de dos IV stood in the Matisse's studio in the former Hôtel Régina in Cimiez, in Nice. Despite its being almost completed in 1930, the artist returned to it between 1942 and 1944 and continued working on it. Here, we can see the relief surrounded by the brush drawings created around the same time that the photograph was taken. Like Nu de dos, they also deal with the relationship between figure and background.
